The United States is to commerate  memorial day tomorrow amid the grim daily statistics that are coming out of Iraq every day on American Casualties.

As the lone superpower of the world the US army is taking the brunt of action and causalities in troubled areas around the world. President Bush would like to leave office having resolved the Iraq and Iran issue. Both these issues seem very far from resolution.

Iraq’s own military doesn’t seem close to taking over from the US forces and shades of the  failure of  the Vietnamization program seem to come to mind. In that Era The United States attempted to train the South Vietnamese to take control of the country as American forces tried to extricate itself from that bloody conflict. It seems The US is doing something along the same lines with similar results.

General George Patton was once quoted as saying that the point of war was not dying for your country rather making your adversary die for his. There seems to be deep sentiment in the United States that too many Americans are dying for there country. There does not seem to be an end in sight but the United States seems determined to see Iraq stay out of the circle of terror. As many may sing on memorial day the verse “ the land of the free and the home of the brave “ there are some that have lived and died those words.
