New Years Day in Pasedena

Happy new year!

The Rose Bowl

New Years day, the Rose Bowl parade and the Rose Bowl are the way many Americans define every January 1.The most prestigious college football game of the year is the Rose Bowl even the name conjures up college football greatness. Incredibly enough Chariot races replaced football as the main attraction on New Years day; they weren’t very popular so football was brought back. This years game between Illinois and Southern California is not for the national collegiate championship but it might feel like it. It’s the Granddaddy of all college football games.

The Rose Queen is another icon of the Rose Bowl festivities with a very special Girl picked from among 1,000 contestants.  The Rose Queen waving during the parade is arguably the most symbolic part and best known of Rose bowl festivities. This years winner is 17 year old Dusty Gibbs, she is the 90th Rose Queen in the long history of the Rose Bowl.

Pasadena California is the place to be on New Years day. It’s the Rose Bowl parade it’s the Rose Bowl game.

It’s America.
