Horrific tragedy of Rampaging Tiger that was killed
Tragedy in San Francisco Zoo.
A bizarre and tragic event occurred yesterday in the San Francisco Zoo. A rare and endangered Siberian tiger named Titania managed to escape her holding pen killing a visitor while injuring two others. The enormity of the tragedy defies conventional thinking as the wild endangered animal was also killed during the rampage. This beautiful majestic animal did not belong in a Zoo at all; it belonged in its natural habitat in the Russian far east or in North Korea. Man has decimated this animal to virtual extinction then put some of the surviving cats in captivity. When this cat acts like a wild tiger it is shot and killed. There are fewer than 500 of these animals left in the wild while over 600 are being held in captivity in Zoos around the world. There needs to be a concerted effort to reintroduce captive endangered animals of this kind back into the wild. The best Zoo in the world cannot take the place of the wild for endangered animals or any other animals. There needs to be a world conservation movement that will limit which type of animals can be held in captivity. In recent years a number of Zoos have been abandoned because of war and severe weather making the Zoo model more problematic. No one should be surprised that an animal imprisoned for so long by humans would turn so violent when given a chance. Tatania acted like the wild animal she was. She deserved to live free.
