Israel Israel attacks rocket launchers in Gaza Strip
Ten members of the extremist Jihad Islami have apparently been killed by pinpoint attacks. The Israeli Army has confirmed military action against targets in different parts of the Gaza Strip in direct retaliation for rocket fire into Israel. That Rocket fire injured a toddler in the Zekim kibbutz. The Jihad has threatened massive reprisals that include suicide attacks inside greater Israel.
It is unclear when the major offensive of the Israeli army into the strip will happen. It seems that unless some rocket attack causes extreme loss of life on the Israeli the offensive will be put on hold. This offensive will apparently happen in the spring when formal negotiations will have probably petered out. The Israeli Army will apparently try to weaken the Hamas and Jihad Islami by pinpoint strikes and then move in to the strip en mass. The ruling Hamas for their part and the Jihad have been preparing in earnest for an invasion of the strip by Israel. The model for this preparation taken from the very successful hizubulah defense of South Lebanon almost 2 years ago. Israel is frankly worried over the possibly of heavy casualties in the event of an incursion and is devising an attack plan to circumvent the many obstacles the Hamas has put up.
If the Hamas or the Jihad manage to carry out an attack inside Israel then all hell will break loose. They will be trying to carry out such attacks in the coming days. Most military analysts believe that the ability of these organizations to carry out these attacks are limited.
Time will tell.
