G-mail is not always free PDF Print E-mail

G-mail  promised free e-mail without having to worry about deleting anything. Well ...

Free G-mail? I don’t think so

On April fools day 2004 Google launched G-mail with the slogan “never delete another e-mail “. Well that’s terrific but I just received a message from G-mail that looked like this

" your message cannot  be sent because you have exceeded your storage quota "

This is completely nuts! G-mail promised unlimited e-mails and now they want me to pay $20.

Maybe that was the April fools Joke of 2004 three years later, good one Google.

Google forced other giant online e-mail providers to give large volume inboxes and Yahoo now even has given a limitless volume for its on line e-mail system. Google may be forced to do the same but in the meantime has a good gimmick of slowly adding free space every day. The free space is up to 2888MB and counting.

For someone like me who HATES throwing things away deleting G-mail is tedious and painful. I have started to do what I did not want to do anymore and the reason I switched to G-mail in the first place.

Before you reach this limit be sure to delete manually your spam and trash folders though Google does this once a week allegedly.

You could also backup your files on outlook or thunderbird. I can’t believe I just wrote that as I hate offline e-mail programs.

Go figure.

The spam folder does NOT count towards your storage limit - Google says so.
And if you have more than 2.8 GB of mail then you DESERVE to pay.....

Clear out some of the crap, or save as and .eml and burn it or put it on your HDD.

Look, I know everyone wants everthin' in their life to be FREE. But the truth is "there is no such thing as a Free Lunch".

Google never said you would have FREE email for the rest of your life... In fact they even show you how much space you get with that counter at the login page. 2.8GB of email is a LOT of email. And if you need more, what's $20? If you really care so much, why not skip going out for dinner and get yourself more storage?
