Hiroshima and Nagasaki commerate atomic bomb attack
The two terrible bombs August 6 and August 9 mark the dates of the dropping of Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended WW2. President Harry Truman as commander in chief of the American Armed forces made the fateful decision to introduce nuclear weapons. It was the first and last time these weapons have been used. Many military historians justify the bombing saying it was the only way to end the war. They even justify the second bomb on Nagasaki as the Japanese were not convinced by the first bomb. This claim is a bit outlandish. The truth is that the first bombing was quite enough to convince the Japanese that the war was lost a second bomb was not necessary. Why then was it dropped? The answer seems simple. Revenge, pure revenge for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Wasn’t it revenge enough to drop the bomb on Hiroshima? It was clear that if the United States had given an ultimatum after the first bomb the Japanese would have capitulated. The ultimatum came in the form of another bomb. There are those that claim that the United States tried to warn Japanese citizens of an impending attack even after the first attack on Hiroshima. These historical arguments will likely continue. The Japanese certainly have to take responsibility for Pearl Harbor and forcing the United States into WW2. The United States will need to live with the basic question was a second bomb necessary? |
