In what is perceived as excellent news for the world community the most reclusive nation in the world has decided to suspend its nuclear activity.
North Korea to stop producing nuclear energy The most extreme communist country left in the world apparently is not as crazy or unpredictable as perceived. They have decided to suspend production of nuclear materiel in exchange of fuel and other raw materials that the country needs so desperately. This marks a major achievement for the world community and the UN nuclear watchdog.. It is still unclear to what extent the north will go in completely stopping its nuclear activities. The dismantling of the site at Yongbyon is likely to be conditional on all sanctions being lifted. This is dramatic news nonetheless as Iran would remain the only country openly defying the world community with its nuclear policies. The world community may galvanize itself to take the necessary steps to stop Iran now that North Korea seems to be moving away from nuclear weapons. There seems to be a reawakening in Europe as to the danger of nuclear proliferation on the part of Iran. The fact that North Korea has opted out of the nuclear arms race will only strengthen those calling for more aggressive action towards Iran. |
